Pittsburgh has been adding new hotel rooms at a furious pace in the last few years, and now Concord Hospitality Group of Raleigh, N.C. is bringing a new-to-the-market concept to the space between Downtown and the Strip District.
“AC Hotels by Marriott provide a new kind of stay for a new kind of guest—a creative, entrepreneurial and modern global traveler—who prefers to have fewer things, but expects them to be better than good,” says spokesman Keith McGraw.
While this will be the first AC Hotel by Marriott in Pittsburgh, McGraw says the modern European design will differentiate the property from traditional legacy brands that are so popular in the area.
“Supply is an issue,” explains McGraw. “We mitigate that risk by developing unique properties in great locations and offering excellent hotel service and operation.”
The location of the 133-room AC Hotel is next to fine dining mainstay Eleven on Smallman St. The new hotel will also have a restaurant, AC Kitchen, that will focus on breakfast, along with a co-working space by day that turns into a tapas restaurant and bar at night, as well as a fitness center, and mobile check-in and check-out.
The AC Hotel name comes from the initials of Spanish hotelier Antonio Catalan, who wanted to focus on modern design.
In the past few years, Pittsburgh has picked up quite a few new hotel brands, ranging from the boutique Hotel Monaco to the trendy Ace Hotel in East Liberty. Though there have long been plans for a large hotel to support the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, none are currently planned. A lot of rooms have been added within walking distance, however, including the recently opened Drury Hotel, and this AC Hotel by Marriott will add more.
The hotel is scheduled to be finished by summer of 2018.
