To celebrate the announcement of their new executive chef, Eric “Spudz” Wallace, and new menu, Monterey Bay Grotto is hosting a special pop-up culinary event on Monday, September 19. Wallace will join forces in the kitchen with Chef Kevin Sousa for a one-night only event called “Seafood | Sousa | Spudz.”

Together, the two chefs and friends will create a seven-course dinner paired with wines to perfectly complement each of their food selections. Wallace says he is looking forward to collaborating with “the one and only Kevin Sousa” for this event. “This dinner in my new home of Monterey Bay Fish Grotto will be a true celebration between chefs, as well as a taste of some exciting things that will inspire menu additions at Monterey Bay.”

Sousa continues to play an active role in pop-up culinary events around town while he prepares for his new Braddock restaurant, Superior Motors. He enjoys the creative challenges of working on events like this because “pop-ups and one-offs are a great way to explore new ideas without having to fully commit.”

“Eric (Spudz) and I have been friends for well over a decade and our professional paths have crossed several times throughout the years,” says Sousa. “Our most recent time together came at Monterey Bay while I was doing a bit of consulting and Eric came on board as the executive chef. This dinner event speaks to: our respect for one another, our respect for the work that has made Monterey Bay a Pittsburgh institution and to the future direction of a wildly talented chef, kitchen, front of house and management team.”

Guest diners will be treated to a selection of amuse-bouches beginning at 6:30 p.m., followed by a 7 p.m. seating.
