Spirit
August 11
7—11 p.m.
Celebrate hip hop music and culture, support local talent and get involved in community activism at 1Hood Day.
The annual hip hop celebration is produced by 1Hood Media, a Pittsburgh-based collective of artists and activists who tap into the power of art and creative expression—including performance, writing and visual art—to raise awareness about social justice issues impacting people around the planet.
Headlining the third annual showcase will be Philadelphia hip hop legends Beanie Sigel and Freeway, who are well-known for their releases on Jay-Z’s Roc-A-Fella Records label, and as being members of the rap group State Property.
In addition to releasing six studio albums, Sigel has acted in several documentary and feature films. Hip hop artist Freeway has released five albums, including 2016’s Free Will.
The nationally acclaimed rappers will share the stage with local hip hop luminaries, including artists from the 1Hood roster and DJs BIG Phill and QRX.
Don’t miss performances by Jasiri X, Idasa Tariq, Blak Rapp M.A.D.U.S.A., Jacquea Mae, livefromthecity, LUC and Jordan Montgomery.
Open to all ages, 1Hood Day will also feature a pop-up market and performances by the Get Down Gang breakdance collective.
Buy tickets ($15 in advance; $20 at the door).
