Barebones Black Box
January 26 — February 19
Various times

Head to resurgent Braddock and the newly reconstructed Barebones Black Box theater, housed inside the same building as Superior Motors, for the premiere of “Rules of Seconds,” starring Cotter Smith, of the Pittsburgh-filmed Netflix series “Mindhunter.”

Set in 1850’s Boston, “Rules of Seconds” uses dueling as the backdrop to explore honor, power, masculinity and more.

The production is written by John Pollono (known for his work with barebones productions’ “Small Engine Repair” and the film “Stronger”) and directed by Melissa Martin. Writing about the play, the Los Angeles Times said: “Their boots and pistols suggest the drama’s 1855 Boston setting, but their F-bombs could get them cast in Quentin Tarantino’s next movie.”

This is the first show to be held in barebones’ highly anticipated, new 70-seat theater space. Shows are at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and Sundays at 3 p.m. There will also be a special evening performance on Valentine’s Day. Due to demand, barebones has added a performance on February 17 at 2 p.m.

Don’t miss the special talkback event with award-winning playwright, actor and screenwriter John Pollono on February 11 after the 3 p.m. show.
