Northside

Pittsburgh’s vibrant food scene—heralded by everyone from Zagat to Savuer—is about so much more than fries on a sammich.

Lovers of the iconic sandwich can eat their way through the Northside while elebrating all that can be dreamt up between two slices of bread.

Dubbed “Lord of the Onion Rings,” the sixth annual event showcases the mouth-watering sandwich-making skills of 12 restaurants, bars and delis. The friendly sammich smackdown features everyone from Southern Tier Brewing and Casellula, to Max’s Allegheny Tavern and Scratch.

From bruschetta grilled cheese to a sandwich featuring a glazed doughnut, fried chicken and sriracha mayo—you can sample signature dishes and vote for your “Favorite Northside Sandwich Joint.”

The foodie fun kicks off with the May 18 Sandwich Sampler Event at Pittsburgh’s Grand Hall at The Priory. Attendees will sample creations from all 12 restaurants, enjoy house-made onion rings, and vote for the next “Northside Sandwich King or Queen.” The event also features an outdoor beer garden and live music by the 8th Street Rox Band.

On May 20, hop on a bike to pedal past featured eateries and sample sandwiches throughout the historic Northside during Le Tour De Sandwich.
