Northside Sandwich Week

North Side
May 17 – 27
Various times

The North Side is known for its historic homes, churches and landmarks, packed sports stadiums and cultural destinations — and it’s the birthplace of famed figures like writer Gertrude Stein, painter Cassatt and dancer Martha Graham and many others.

For 11 days in May, you’ll want to flock to the North Side all for the sandwiches.

Showcasing the savvy sandwich-making skills of 11 North Side restaurants, bars and delis, the culinary event invites the public to savor all that can be dreamt up between two slices of bread and support local business districts.

Featured sandwich-slinging masters will offer a taste for every palate — from Brugge on North and Huszár, to Threadbare Cider and Fig & Ash. On the menu will be Hungarian meatloaf topped with pickled cabbage slaw, BBQ pulled pork and habanero jack cheese and a medley of salami, mortadella and capicola. Mouth watering yet?

Kick off your gastronomical tour at the “Sandwich Sampler: The French Bread Connection” preview event May 17 at Priory Grand Hall. Sample all of the sandwich creations and vote for the 2018 Northside Sandwich King or Queen. This year’s celebrity judges include Post-Gazette dining critic Melissa McCart, comedian Day Bracey and musicians Max Somerville and Nathan Zoob. The event will also feature live music by The Olga Watkins Band and a Penn Brewery craft beer garden.
