Get to know the neighborhood that’s located in South Pittsburgh atop a crest west of the Monongahela River.

Produced by the Urban Redevelopment Authority, City of Pittsburgh and NEXTpittsburgh, Next 3 Days showcases under-the-radar, emerging neighborhoods and promotes affordable housing. This September, the series heads to Carrick for three days of community-based events and programs.

What makes Carrick tick? Explore and tour Carrick — from the bustling Brownsville Road business district and historic Phillips Park, to 19th-century mansions and exciting new community development projects.

If you missed Spencer Warren’s hip Miracle Bar Downtown, don’t miss the N3D kick-off party and happy hour from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 15 at the Dairy District Pavilion located at 1529 Brownsville Road. The rock star bartender will reinvent his pop-up watering hole concept to feature craft cocktails inspired by Carrick.

Throughout the night, enjoy live music by The Telephone Line, sample Carrick-infused cuisine and participate in hands-on art activities, neighborhood photography projects and block party games. (Use code CARRICK here to get FREE tickets.)

On Saturday, head back to Carrick to meet the independent businesses, nonprofit organizations, cultural heritage groups, residents and artists that define the community. Check out a show by the famous Tamburitzans that will celebrate Hispanic cultures, as well as a dance performance by the BCAP (Bhutanese) community. The brass funk band Beauty Slap will close out the day. The free all-ages community celebration runs from 12:30 to 3 p.m. at the Dairy District Pavilion.

Join walking tours of the neighborhood’s grand 19th-century homes led by residents and historians, and cheer on local entrepreneurs as they compete in a community bake-off.

Get a taste of Carrick’s legendary pierogi makers, and visit the homebuyers workshop tent for real estate resources. Shop at the local farmer’s market, and make crafts and treat yourself to popcorn at CornFest. Make sure to grab complimentary bites from Square Cafe and Colteryahn Dairy, too.

Don’t miss the official N3D “Bites & Brews” after-party starting at 4 p.m. featuring craft brews, delicious local food and live music by Radiation and Dani Rae.

Thinking of moving to Carrick? Be sure to attend Sunday’s self-guided homebuyer tours and open house events from noon to 3 p.m. Pick up a map at participating local businesses and make your way through the neighborhood to see Carrick’s housing stock and select rehabbed homes.

Buy tickets for Friday night here and check out the Next 3 Days Facebook page for more details.
