Cool Globes Pittsburgh

WHAT: Cool Globes Pittsburgh
WHERE: Downtown Pittsburgh
WHEN: Through early October

The next time you stroll through Downtown Pittsburgh, you’ll encounter a super cool public art project with a very important message.

Bringing 30 spherical sculptures to Market Square, Gateway Center, PPG Place and Triangle Park, Cool Globes: Hot Ideas for a Cooler Planet is here to spark a conversation about climate change.

Be the first to see the thought-provoking orbs, meet the artists and enjoy Millie’s ice cream at the free opening on June 18.

Each custom-made globe features action steps citizens can take to reduce climate change — increasing energy efficiency in buildings, avoiding pesticides, buying products made with 100 percent post-consumer materials and much more.

Launched in Chicago in 2007, Cool Globes has traveled to four continents and 20 cities. On view through September, the Pittsburgh edition features new globes created by local artists Katy DeMent, Ashley Kyber and Lindsay Wright.
