Escape to a world where musical instruments soar through the air, laughter is the official language, and carefree playfulness is always encouraged.

Don’t miss all of this and much more—when the award-winning performance troupe, Playing By Air, makes its debut in Pittsburgh this weekend. The latest featured show in Shady Side Academy’s Hillman Performing Arts Series, the production is open to the public of all ages.

A nonstop spectacle of fast-paced feats, comedy, music, juggling, and circus arts, Playing By Air’s immersive and versatile show has garnered rave reviews from family audiences around the US. Based in Nashville and New York City, the company features multi-talented performer Michael Karas, who hails from Pittsburgh.

Literally turning the art of music upside down, the breathtaking action blends original magic-like inventions, electrifying displays of light, color and motion, symphonic sounds, engaging characters, and ingenious instruments.

Be prepared to exit the theater with your eyes wide open and your imagination buzzing.

As part of its Pittsburgh premiere, Playing By Air will also host a free outreach performance for patients and families at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC on Friday, March 10, at 2 p.m. An official partner of the Creativity Moves Kids national touring program, Playing By Air was founded with a social enterprise business model that includes a commitment to offering free performances for children’s hospitals, schools and community-based nonprofits.
