The National Aviary

December 3
5 – 9 p.m.

Forget visions of sugarplums, eight tiny reindeer and that mischievous mouse: it’s time to ring in the holidays with festive feathered friends.

All the birds’ feathers will be ruffling—even the canary’s—on December 3rd when The National Aviary invites children and their families to go behind-the-scenes at the Northside destination for after-hours holiday fun.

With an artsy, avian twist on Clement Moore’s iconic 19th-century poem, A Night Before Christmas, the fun-filled family night is open to all ages from 5 to 9 p.m.

Step inside the immersive FliteZone Theater to munch on popcorn as you watch the Annie Award-winning holiday movie Merry Madagascar—featuring stop motion animation and the voices of Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, Jada Pinkett Smith and Carl Reiner.

Ready to meet the birds? Participate in story time activities with Mrs. Claus and some jovial penguins and get nose-to-beak with wondrous wintery owls and nut-cracking macaws. Learn how to attract wild birds to your own backyard by making a feeder ornament to hang outside, and then explore the glowing Aviary at night all decked out for the holiday season.

Looking for nature-themed stocking stuffers for that bird lover in your clan? Pop into the National Aviary’s Gift and Garden Shop to peruse unique wildlife wares. Be sure to mention the “holiday shopping day discount” to receive 10% off (20% off for members). On Thursday, December 3rd, the shop will remain open until 9 p.m.

Admission to the National Aviary’s “A Night Before Christmas” event is $14 for adults; $7 for members; $12 for children ages 2-18; $13 for seniors and for children under 2.
