Mattress Factory

Mattress Factory Museum
November 24
11 a.m. — 4 p.m.

Looking for a creative way to bond over the holidays — minus the headaches of generic malls, long lines and inflated ticket prices?

Give thanks for art at the Mattress Factory Family Day, which is free with museum admission. Make, play and explore art you can get into (literally!) with activities throughout the world-renowned museum of contemporary installation art.

Make cool stuff together, have your face painted by Rikki and dance to groovy tunes with DJ Dave Zak. Create dolls using re-purposed found objects and recyclables and a collaborative wall collage inspired by artists Vanessa German, Greer Lankton and David Ellis.

The youngest art fans will love the hot chocolate bar and special Mini-Factory program for 3-to-5-year-olds.

See permanent installations by legendary artists such as James Turrell and Yayoi Kusama, and step into multi-sensory room-sized art, such as Meg Webster’s magical “Solar Grow Room,” David Ellis’ vibrant “Summer Quintet #17” and David Pohl’s contemplative “furniture music.”

Head to the MF Shop on November 26 to celebrate the inaugural Museum Store Sunday and cross off everything on your holiday shopping list. Meet Pittsburgh makers, peruse trunk shows by Collarbone Jewelry, FMS & Sons Woodworking and Air and Nothingness Press, and enjoy free gift-wrapping.
