National Aviary
August 17
5—9 p.m.

Pajama parties aren’t just for weekends anymore.

Slip into your favorite comfy pajamas and enjoy hanging with the Aviary’s coolest residents.

Explore the Aviary after-hours as you meet members of the popular African penguin colony, and learn all about their traits, habitats and history at the BioFact information table. Look for their signature black facial masks, pink eye patches and unique chest patterns—and listen for their distinctive donkey-like bray. Also known as the black-footed penguin, the charismatic species is declining due to a combination of threats and is classified as endangered.

After making new feathered friends, get crafty as you create avian-themed artwork, and then pop into Atria’s Kookaburra Kitchen to purchase kid-friendly dinner items.

At 6:05 p.m., grab some popcorn and head to the FliteZone Theater to catch a screening of the animated film,
Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, featuring the voices of Ben Stiller, Alec Baldwin, Chris Rock and Jada Pinkett Smith.

Before you say goodnight and head home to count sheep, help the Aviary staff put the penguins to sleep with a bedtime story!

The event is included with general admission.
