He’s performed at the Acropolis in Greece, the Taj Mahal in India, the Forbidden City in China and the Royal Albert Hall in England; now, legendary composer Yanni brings his instrumental world music to Downtown’s Benedum Center.

Née Yiannis Chryssomallis in 1954 in Kalamata, Greece, the renowned keyboardist, composer and producer—who has lived for decades in the US—released Inspirato, his 17th studio album, in March 2014 on Sony Classical. To create the work, Yanni collaborated with opera tenor Plácido Domingo and producer Ric Wake to select distinguished vocalists to perform original songs spanning his prolific career.

Yanni first started playing piano at the young age of six, and with encouragement from his parents, went on to develop his distinct self-taught musical style. Blending jazz, classical, soft rock and an eclectic fusion of ethnic sounds and world music to create predominantly instrumental works, Yanni has achieved international acclaim via multi-media concerts performed at historic monuments, along with producing videos for public television. Fourteen of Yanni’s albums have peaked at No. 1 in Billboard‘s “Top New Age Album” category, and two of his albums, Dare to Dream and In My Time, have received Grammy Award nominations.

A longtime fundraiser for public television, Yanni’s compositions have also been used on commercial television programs, including during sporting events. He has also composed film scores and written music for an award-winning British Airways television commercial. Awarded some 40 platinum and gold albums worldwide, with sales of his music surpassing 25 million albums, Yanni has performed for more than two million people in 20-plus countries around the globe.
