Forty dancers, eleven choreographers, one world premiere and two weeks packed with affordable performances and workshops. Kelly Strayhorn Theater’s newMoves Contemporary Dance Festival is back with a lineup not to miss.

Showcasing bold new collaborations, innovative technology and dynamic performance art through the lens of contemporary dance making, newMoves9 brings together local, national and international artists.

The curated festival is using movement to explore everything from immigration to gender identity to social justice. Productions will spotlight choreographers and performers on the vanguard of dance, and will reflect issues facing communities from Pittsburgh to Reno to Jerusalem.

Highlights include the world premiere of “Touch Update” by award-winning artist Bill Shannon, whose latest work examines the “implications of physical human contact in the digital era.” Audiences will experience Shannon’s personalized movement vocabulary which has evolved through his creative use of crutches.

Additional performers include Chris Babingui, Jamal Jackson, Moriah Ella Mason, Shamel Pitts, Staycee Pearl and more.

This is one festival pass that won’t break the bank because all newMoves9 tickets are “Pay What Makes You Happy.”
