When watching a play in a dark theater, do you find yourself in awe of everything that goes into the production and wondering what it takes to make it all happen before the curtain rises on opening night?

The best place for live theater fans to get a behind-the-scenes “glimpse into the page-to-stage process” is at City Theatre’s Momentum festival.

At the free festival, attendees will see a variety of works representing different stages in the development process, including three plays, one musical and a reading of a new drama by a Young Playwrights Festival Alumnus.

Catch a workshop presentation of Cori Thomas’ play, Citizens Market, before it makes its world premiere at City Theatre in 2018, and participate in an interactive conversation called Questioning Color led by local playwright Tami Dixon.

Momentum will also feature a meet-and-greet happy hour with the artists co-presented by Urbanist Pittsburgh.

At all Momentum events, City Theatre will collect donations of toiletries for YMCA emergency kits to be distributed to local trafficking nonprofits and domestic violence shelters.

Events are free and open to the public. Reservations are recommended.
