O’Reilly Theater
August 28 & 29
8 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 9 p.m.
It began in 1950s as small group of young actors that included Mike Nichols and Elaine May. Its star-studded list of alums boasts everyone from Joan Rivers, Jerry Stiller and John Belushi, to Bill Murray, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Amy Poehler. It holds the distinction of being the first ongoing improvisational theater troupe in the U.S.
This weekend, Pittsburgh audiences have two special nights to catch The Second City when its legendary comedy troupe rolls into downtown’s O’Reilly Theater with plenty of its witty, fast-paced and biting satire in tow.
Presented by Pittsburgh Public Theater, Fully Loaded features brand new sketches, songs and improv acts, scenes from the troupe’s sold-out shows in Chicago and Toronto and iconic comedy material written by several of The Second City’s most acclaimed alums, including Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert and Steve Carell.
Directed by Ryan Archibald, Fully Loaded features skillful comedians Jo Feldman, Julie Marchiano, Chucho Perez, Nick Rees and Julia Weiss. Also featured in The Second City cast is 28-year-old Pittsburgh native Adam Schreck, who grew up in Bethel Park. A graduate of Bethel Park High School and now a member of The Second City, Schreck competed in Pittsburgh Public Theater’s Shakespeare Monologue and Scene Contest in 2004 and 2005.
Fans of The Second City should grab tickets now, because there are only three shows: Friday, August 28th at 8 p.m., and Saturday, August 29th at 5:30 and 9 p.m.
