Ready to splash your way into summer?

Pittsburgh might be 376 miles from the nearest ocean, but that does not mean you can’t have lots of water-themed fun at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. The Northside destination is calling all kids and families to its Community Free Day on Saturday, June 21st. Make a splash and help kick off summer during an urban beach bash packed with daylong activities, events and performances for all ages.

Help transform the museum’s MAKESHOP into an undersea aquarium environment by constructing your very own aquatic creatures, explore the museum’s newest traveling exhibition, XOXO: An Exhibit about Love & Forgiveness and be a maker during special hands-on Studio programs.

Celebrate the longest day of the year with a rompin’, stompin’, dancin’ performance by Colonel Eagleburger’s Highstepping Goodtime Band, and enjoy the lively stylings of the Pittsburgh Banjo Club.

For some outdoor fun in the sun, lounge (kiddie) poolside donning some new free shades, enjoy a bike powered lemonade smoothie courtesy of Zero Fossil and visit art activity tents run by the museum’s Northside neighbors.

Ready for a cool down? Run, jump and skip through sprinklers and in and around the museum’s unique misting art installation, Cloud Arbor. Hungry for a summer snack? Slurp popsicles made from local fruits, herbs and berries, and learn about the tasty treats that are crafted right here in Pittsburgh by East End-based Healcrest Farms.

Remember to wear clothes you won’t mind getting wet, or consider bringing a dry outfit along with you.
