Sunday, May 6 is already looming large in the minds of local and international runners, when more than 40,000 people are expected to converge in Pittsburgh for the marathon.

The best place to jumpstart your training regimen, stick to those New Year’s resolutions and warm up during this frigid cold front — is at Sunday’s DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Kick-off Training Run.

Hosted by P3R and the Steel City Road Runners, the free event takes place at 810 River Avenue on Pittsburgh’s scenic North Side.

This morning of fitness, fun, food and free stuff has everything you need to start your race on the right foot. Check-in will begin at 10:30 a.m. and Steel City Road Runners Head Coach Dave Spell will lead a dynamic warm-up at 11:45 a.m.

The run will start at noon. Steel City Road Runners will lead 4-, 6- and 8-mile routes with various pace options.

Pick up your marathon merch in the P3R pop-up gear store, enjoy refreshments and learn all about this year’s big race.

A vendor exhibit will feature samples and products from DICK’S Sporting Goods, UPMC Health Plan, Brooks Running, GNC Live Well, UPMC Sports Medicine, Rachael Ray Nutrish, NuGo Nutrition Bars and Honey Stinger.
