What requires 154,000 safety pins, 20,000 gallons of water, 4,154 volunteers and 700 Port-O-Johns? Find out at the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon.

Hailing from Australia to Arizona, some 40,000 people will participate in what The Active Times calls the world’s 8th best marathon.

Whether you’re a seasoned runner, a kid just getting started or a vocal spectator, there’s a lot to be excited about. Along a new and improved course, runners representing 49 states and 20 countries—from age two to 87—will traverse 13 neighborhoods and pass PNC Park, Heinz Field and PPG Paints Arena.

For the enthusiastic crowds, race weekend is packed with black & gold-themed neighborhood festivals, 40 live bands, 25 cheer groups, and more.

Stop by the vendor booths for marathon swag, test your stamina at the Venture Outdoors climbing wall and purchase a colorful event poster designed by artist Aditya Peri.

Visit the marathon HQ at the Wyndham Grand, the GNC Live Well Pittsburgh Health & Fitness Expo at the convention center, and Finish Line Festival in Point State Park. Wind down by sipping refreshing Sierra Nevada brews and Barefoot Wines at race weekend happy hours.

The award-winning event also features the UPMC Health Plan 5K, Toyota Pittsburgh Kids Marathon, Sheetz Toddler Trot, and Rachael Ray Nutrish Pittsburgh Pet Walk.
