On May 7th, the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon will unveil a scenic new course welcoming more than 40,000 people for a weekend packed with race events. That can only mean one thing: it’s time to jumpstart your training regimen.

The best place to do so is at Saturday’s annual UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon Kick-off Training Run, which has everything you need to start your race on the right foot. You can sign-up for any of the May 7th race events while there.

Hosted by P3R and the Steel City Road Runners Club, Saturday’s free event marks the official start to the 12-week training period for the 2017 UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon—which is also part of the big festivities on Sunday, May 7th. One of the country’s largest half-marathons, the UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon attracts more than 14,000 participants annually.

Open to novice and veteran runners alike, the training day kicks off with a 7 a.m. check-in session. At 8:15 a.m., get moving during a dynamic warm-up led by orthopedic surgeon, author and speaker, Dr. Vonda Wright, who is medical director of the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex.

Join members of the Steel City Road Runners Club, who will be on hand leading 3-5 and 7-10 mile loops at various pace that accommodate all skill levels.

Sure to keep the motivation and energy high will be award-winning, professional long-distance runner Bobby Curtis—the second fastest American marathoner of 2016—who will answer your burning training questions while consulting personally with runners.

The training event will also include post-run snacks, beverages, vitamin chews and hydration packs.

Be sure to check out all of the official DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon and UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon training gear for sale at the event.

This year, marathoners will enjoy a brand new, scenic course which is designed to show off the city’s sports stadiums and cross our mighty three rivers.

Runners may RSVP here but advance registration is not required for Saturday.
