National Aviary
February 23
6 – 10 p.m.

It certainly feels unseasonably tropical this week with the temps expected to climb to a balmily 72 and the constant rains.

What better time than Friday night to help support one of Pittsburgh’s greatest cultural and ecological assets? Keeping its doors open late for the 21+ crowd, the National Aviary is hosting a “Welcome to the Jungle” benefit bash paying tribute to remote tropical jungles and warmer nights ahead.

Step into a rainforest-themed environment to experience lush indoor habitats and mingle with tropical creatures. Be transformed into Tarzan or Jane by caricature artist Tami Haslett, make tasty treats for resident birds and bats and watch blue-fronted Amazon parrots create paintings. Next, shake your tailfeathers with DJ Scottro and create your own air plant with Best Feeds Garden Center.

More of a wallflower? Channel your inner sloth or armadillo as you relax beneath tropical trees and learn all about these remarkable species and the importance of preserving their habitats.

The event will also feature tasty tropical fare from Atria’s, beers from Penn Brewery and more.

Proceeds will support the Aviary’s education, medicine and conservation programs.
