“Fries on a sammich” is a worthy candidate for the canon of Pittsburgh-related phrases and slogans, along with the likes of “One For the Thumb,” “57 Varieties,” “Paris of Appalachia” and so on.

This Saturday, lovers of the iconic sandwich will converge on Pittsburgh’s favorite food-centric neighborhood for a culinary showdown of epic proportions—and portions—dubbed “Strip Search: Sammich Showdown.”

For its inaugural edition, the food festival is setting up shop at 21st and Stallman Streets. Arrive super hungry to sample a delicious assortment of creative takes on the classic sandwich crafted by top local restaurants. Participating eateries vying to craft “Pittsburgh’s best sandwich” include Meat and Potatoes, DiAnoia’s, Spork, Wholey’s, Edgars Best Taco’s, Lucy’s Banh Mi, Muddy Water Oysters, Point Brugge and more.

To wash it all down, there will be craft beer from breweries like Southern Tier and Great Lakes, along with libations from Wigle Whiskey and Pittsburgh Winery.

In between sampling sammiches, attendees can play party games and check out live music by Chase and the Barons and Juan Vasquez.

Proceeds will benefit Strip District Neighbors.
