It’s hard to believe that this laid-back, family-friendly series sprung up at Shadyside Nursery four years ago. Kicking off a new season of gardening, outdoor fun, local libations and Pittsburgh bands, Weather Permitting ushers in its latest summer installment on Sunday, June 12 with a welcoming vibe that’s not to miss.

Collect the entire clan or a slew of friends and treat yourself to four hours of rocking out al fresco, picnicking on the lawn, shopping for perennials, and making new friends.

Easing things into the early evening hours will be live music by The Armadillos, whose indie Americana sound incorporates everything from mandolin and vocal harmonies, to accordion and tin flute.

Keeping the atmosphere family-focused will be an uplifting and informative set by Josh and Gab (aka Josh Verbanets and Gab Bonesso), whose award-winning performances fuse high-energy musical comedy with a universal anti-bullying message.

Stick around for a magic hour set capping off the night in the nursery’s parking lot, when The Grant Street Grifters will lull attendees toward slumberland with their old-timey folk and blues stylings.

Arrive hungry—and thirsty—to take advantage of the on-site food trucks, such as Berlin Street Foods, Steer and Wheel and Stickler’s Pops, as well as refreshing beers from Rock Bottom Brewery. And for the kids, expect plenty of squirt gun battles, sandbox playtime and hula-hoop twisting.
