If you’re an avid or rookie runner, you’ve likely breezed through the city’s scenic parks and authentic neighborhoods, past trees and traffic and along country roads and rural trails.

What if you could join a race at an airport? Make that our very own award-winning and top-ranked Pittsburgh International Airport. This Saturday you can do just that, when Pittsburgh International celebrates its 25th anniversary.

Lace up those sneakers, start your engines and take flight at the second annual PIT FlyBy 5K.

More than 1,500 participants will have the rare chance to run and walk along a one-of-a-kind, USATF-certified course that grants special access to a runway. Experience the exciting sights and sounds of the airport as you pass hangars, taxiways and aircraft — and then enjoy post-race snacks, activities and DJ entertainment.

The 5K race will start at 10 a.m. New this year is a two-mile fun run and walk starting at 10:10 a.m. All finishers will receive a medal and shirt.

Participants can pick up their pre-race packets on September 29 at Fleet Feet Sports. The first 200 people will receive a free Nike water bottle.

Presented by P3R and the Airport Authority, the family-friendly event will benefit the Allegheny County Airport Authority Charitable Foundation.
