Ready to venture outdoors and explore an urban park?

One of the best ways for kids and families to get active together in the great outdoors is at Venture Outdoors’ Family Outdoors Festival.

An afternoon packed with free beginner-friendly offerings for kids of all ages, this summer’s Venture Outdoors Family Outdoors Festival invites families to explore a wide range of recreational activities in tranquil Allegheny Commons West Park, located on Pittsburgh’s historic Northside. The festival invites families to glide in a kayak, hop onto a climbing wall, get crafty, hunt for secret treasures and more.

Kayak Pittsburgh will lead free kayaking on Lake Elizabeth, a calm body of water that provides a great opportunity for parents to tandem kayak with children as young as three. For those seeking more adventurous action, Climb Pittsburgh’s portable climbing wall will offer children and adults a chance for vertical adventuring. Have a need for speed? Hop onto a bike and feel the wind in your hair as you cycle throughout the scenic city park.

Nature lovers will want to sign up for a Tyke Hike, a geocaching course that will lead young adventurers ages zero to eight in and around the park. Budding explorers can participate in scavenger hunt activities using GPS coordinates to reach locations where hidden caches (think secret treasure chests!) are placed throughout the park.

Venture Outdoors staff will be on-site to help festival-going families take part in all the free fun and activities.
