8. Daniel Tiger’s Weekend at the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum: May 10-12 & 17-19

Ding! Ding! All aboard! We’re going to the Neighborhood of Make-Believe! Fans of the PBS KIDS series “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood” can meet the striped star, take a ride on a restored antique trolley, play games and enjoy complimentary refreshments during this event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each weekend.

9. Friendship Flower & Folk Festival: May 11

This annual festival happens in Baum Grove (behind Aldi’s at Baum Blvd. and Roup Ave.) from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The neighborhood celebration features a full day of music, food, local artists selling their wares, flowers and vegetable plants for sale and children’s activities led by Assemble, the Irma Freeman Center, Literary Arts Boom and La Escuelita Arcoiris.

10. Mother’s Day Celebration at Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium: May 12

Moms are used to dealing with wild animals all day, so what better place to celebrate Mothers’ Day than at the zoo? From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., all hard-working mamas receive free admission when accompanied by one or more of their kids.

11. Mad Science Open House: May 12

Etna’s Mad Science is opening its laboratory doors from 2 to 4 p.m. as part of Remake Learning Days. Folks can have a peek into the facility’s hands-on science programs for little scientists ages 5 to 12. There will be activities, raffles for goody bags and lab coats and experiments galore. Every kid can make a cup of slime to take home.

12. EQT Children’s Theater Festival in the Cultural District: May 16-19

Downtown’s Cultural District will soon teem with live performances, educational activities and interactive art. The 33rd annual festival runs Thursday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Friday-Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Kids can get in on the act with local and international theater groups.

13. Kids Fantasy Carnival at the Kingsley Center: May 18

Kids can play games and greet their favorite storybook characters and superheroes from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Kingsley Center in East Liberty. Proceeds from ticket sales and a silent auction will help The Western Pennsylvania Diaper Bank provide free diapers to families in need.

14. Ultimate Play Day at Whitehall Public Library: May 19

Come out and play at Whitehall Public Library from 1 to 4 p.m. Organized by Playful Pittsburgh Collaborative, an organization dedicated to fun and family engagement, the event is for people of all ages. There will putt-putt, geocaching, an obstacle course, marble runs, hula hoops, a giant parachute and other activities that are guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
