If you’re ready to cozy up with a book (in air conditioning) the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh is ready to welcome you back inside.
After a year of pandemic restrictions, this week all 19 branches of the library are returning to full capacity with new hours.
In a press release, the library says it is revising its Covid health protocols, eliminating occupancy restrictions and mask mandates. Laptop lending is resuming and furniture and toys are returning to reading areas.
Unvaccinated visitors are still encouraged to wear masks. And curbside and virtual services are still available for patrons wanting contactless service. In-person programming has not resumed and meeting room spaces are not available.
If you’re looking for a special spot, the library compiled a list of five favorite areas “to read, play, learn and connect:”
- Window seats overlooking Murray Avenue at the Squirrel Hill branch
- The stacks at the main branch in Oakland. (There are even windows overlooking Carnegie Museum of Natural History’s Dinosaur Hall)
- Reading nook under the stairs at the Beechview branch
- Teen Zone Studio HIVE in East Liberty
- The August Wilson Room in the Hill District
