Last night, more than 300 of the Pittsburgh region’s journalists, publishers and media industry supporters gathered at Rivers Casino for the Press Club of Western Pennsylvania’s annual Golden Quill Awards.
It was a night to gather with friends and colleagues to celebrate the outstanding work done by writers, photographers, videographers and broadcasters throughout our region — and to be inspired. Among the impressive work honored during the ceremony was the Post-Gazette’s Pulitzer-winning coverage of the Tree of Life shooting.
Our NEXTpittsburgh team was proud to see the Press Club award Golden Quills to feature writer Ryan Rydzewski and our public editor Andrew Conte.
Last April we published Ryan’s feature story on the “school-to-prison pipeline” that draws a disproportionate number of young Pittsburghers of color into the criminal justice system. It’s part of our series of stories under the banner Pittsburgh for All. You can find Ryan’s article here.
Andy’s series of columns exploring the state of the media industry in Pittsburgh and the innovative work being done in our region began last summer with a piece about the coverage of the Antwon Rose Jr. shooting case. You can find his collected columns, honored last night, here.
Congratulations to all Golden Quill winners and nominees! We’re proud to be part of such a talented, hard-working community.
