The popular Pittsburgh Pierogi Festival scheduled for September 27 has been cancelled due to — what else? — the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The health and safety of our guests, our vendors and our staff are always our top priority,” a Festival spokesperson told NEXTpittsburgh. “There was just no way to safely host the Festival at this time. We’ll be back in 2021 with our Kennywood family and we wish everyone a safe 2020 — hopefully filled with lots of pierogies at home!”

The Festival is offering ticket refunds in full. Showclix will be issuing refunds as soon as this week.

Not all is lost. The Pittsburgh Pierogi Festival will be selling 2020 merch that benefits the Pittsburgh Emergency Medicine Foundation. Look for the announcement of their online shop within the coming month on their social media platforms.

The Pierogi Festival attracts up to 6,000 people annually and has been held — with one year off — since 2012.
