Mister Rogers promoted love and acceptance, and now his neighborhood is being recognized for it.
Pittsburgh is No. 1 on Realtor.comâs list of the 10 best cities for LGBTQ+ homebuyers, outranking towns such as Atlanta, Virginia Beach, Providence and Fort Lauderdale.
The website focused on smaller cities with thriving queer cultures where housing is plentiful and prices are reasonable.
Hereâs what Realtor.com has to say about our âgayborhoodâ:
âMost of the LGBTQ nightlife is located in the Shadyside neighborhood, a historic and walkable area that also has galleries and restaurants. A two-story condo there is currently on the market for $329,900. Penn Hills is more family-friendly with a good school system and plenty of historic homes. This three-bedroom, 2.5-bath home there is listed for $239,900.â
Realtor Brian Larson, who is affiliated with Coldwell Banker Real Estate Servicesâ Shadyside office, said the groundbreaking Showtime series âQueer as Folk,â which was filmed in Toronto but set in Pittsburgh, put the Steel City on the gay map.
âSince then, our pride festivals have grown year over year into something that has really kind of been a destination,â says Larson.
