Still kicking yourself for missing the Pittonkatonk Brass Festival (read: Spring’s best party) on May 3rd? Hungry for your next fix of brass? Honk, stomp and groove into the wee hours with PitchBlak Brass Band, who are performing in Pittsburgh for the first time at Brillobox.
For his latest concept concert, Pandemic is teaming up with Music Night On Jupiter (which can be found producing its own impressive live music series at Pittsburgh Winery in the Strip) to present the double header of brass-centic sounds, along with his own DJ stylings.
Based in Brooklyn, the 10-piece PitchBlak Brass Band, who released its debut album, You See Us, in 2013, boasts a repertoire that spans hip hop from its classic 1980s heyday to current trends. A collective of musicians, composers and artists who possess diverse musical backgrounds, PitchBlak brings its hip hop driven music straight from the vibrant streets of NYC to the Burgh. And this city’s fans of both brass music and hip hop are sure to embrace their unique sound and style.
PitchBlak has performed at such high profile venues as The Kennedy Center, Brooklyn Bowl, Le Poisson Rouge, 92YTribeca and Toronto’s NXNE Music Festival. In addition to performing live, PitchBlak also trains and mentors young musicians via community outreach and classroom programs throughout the country.
The band’s eclectic lineup includes Chanell Crichlow (sousaphone), Alison Shearer (sax), Bryan Walters (trumpet), Brian Lotze (trumpet), TJ Robinson (trombone), Alaina Alster (trombone), Max Sholl (trombone), Ben Brody (guitar), Chris Johnson (percussion), and Ashley Baier (drums).
Also on the bill is DJ Pandemic, along with special guests Lungs Face Feet, who play a homegrown blend of Balkan brass, American funk and South American cumbia. Purchase tickets.
