Market Square
June 6, 13, 20, 27
5 – 7 p.m.
Ready to do the Cha Cha Slide in the middle of the city?
Outdoor dining, a farmer’s market and concerts are all helping to make Downtown’s Market Square an urban destination. Now, The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership and USA Dance are teaming up to bring ballroom dancing to the square this month.
Every Friday in June, from 5 to 7 p.m., Dancing in the Square will feature free ballroom dancing lessons led by a different local instructor, danceable music, and lively performances by students and professionals from Pittsburgh-based dance studios. In addition to traditional ballroom dances, popular group dances such as the Electric Slide, Cha Cha Slide, Cupid Shuffle and Mambo Line Dance will be taught and danced each week.
The idea for the free series came about after the PDP saw a great response to National Ballroom Dance Week, which brought the group, along with hundreds of enthusiastic patrons, to Market Square for one day during the Fall of 2013.
Ready to test those steps and skills? Dancing in the Square kicks off on Friday, June 6th, during the first night of the Three Rivers Arts Festival, with lessons by instructor Chris Drum, DJ Brian Lee, and performances by Chris Drum Dance Team, USA Dance and the Woodland Hills Youth Program.
On Friday, June 13th, Market Square welcomes instructor Chris Roth of Steel City Ballroom, DJ Mark Boucher and performance group Yes You Can Dance.
The series continues on June 13th, June 20th and June 27th. View a complete Dancing in the Square schedule.
