Ready to get out of hand for a terrific local cause? Spring is the ideal time to channel your inner artist at the Society for Contemporary Craft‘s “Out of Hand” benefit bash. Celebrating all things handmade, Contemporary Craft’s signature annual fundraiser features hands-on art stations, artist-led demonstrations, live music and performances, a silent auction and handcrafted spirits and local fare. Gala-goers will fashion their own handwork with on-site guidance from the center’s experienced studio artists, vie for outstanding auction objects handcrafted by nationally renowned artists and mingle with “hand celebrities” who make a living with their hands. Try your own hand at paper making, candy casting, creating an assemblage keychain or crafting an enameled charm, and experience a live puppet happening with Tom Sarver and Kristen Barca. Watch artists at work during demos of pearl stringing, peg weaving, mosaic construction, woodturned bowls and more.

Out of Hand will also feature entertainment in multiple art forms, including live music by Blue Redshift, fire dancing by Amanda Peck, flower arrangements by Sogetsu Ikebana, giant puppets by Cheryl Capezzuti and photography by Porter Loves. New this year is the event’s “Just Desserts” ticket geared toward young professionals ($65 each; $100 for two). Get in the spirit by donning your favorite handmade accessory, bespoke jewelry or even an entire outfit made from scratch. The lively gala typically sells out quickly so purchase tickets soon.
