The 2014 Pittsburgh Marathon

In a list of The World’s 25 Best Marathons, Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon ranked number 8.

The Active Times reports that several indicators make for a marathon worth running, including a “great course, enthusiastic fans, and a race that’s well-organized.” They also factored in votes from their readers, as well as runner reviews, course quality, and fan ratings.

“Pittsburgh gets rowdy for their annual marathon. Participants boast of the incredible crowd support. One MarathonGuide.com runner commented, “The spectators were enthusiastic and the neighborhood cheering groups–bands, cheerleaders, step dancers, percussion groups, choirs, etc. gave it a lot of personality. Though Pittsburgh has a particularly hilly landscape, the course winds through, and most of the race is flat,” says the Active Times.

The New York City Marathon snatched the #1 spot, with Chicago and Boston taking 2nd and 3rd respectively. Pittsburgh did manage, however, to beat out Philadelphia’s race, the Berlin Marathon, and the marathon held in Walt Disney World.
