San Francisco bridge at night

While it’s true that about half of the $24 billion that venture capitalists sunk into tech startups these past nine months has ended up in Silicon Valley, it is also true that new areas of the country are receiving large chunks of startup funding– and Pittsburgh happens to be one of them.

In a post for Inc., the Top 20 US Cities for Tech Startup Funding were listed based on figures from “tech startups for software, business services, networking and telecom, but exclude some categories such as biotech, energy, medical devices and retail.”

Pittsburgh edged onto the list in the 20th slot, just below Philadelphia. Through September 30th, says Inc., Pittsburgh has received $124 million in tech startup funding from 35 deals. Topping the list is San Francisco with $9.32 billion.
