By now, you may have you spotted those giant Q’s popping up around town? Created by 10 local artists, the 17th letter of the alphabet is creating quite a buzz for Quantum Theatre’s signature Q-Ball. Theater, fashion and culture will converge at this annual benefit bash for the homegrown experimental theater company. The makers behind the city’s curious Qs are: Seth Clark, Ron Copeland, Kyle Fischer, the Pittsburgh Glass Center (with four artists collaborating), Ryan Lammie, Kathryn Carr, James Shipman, Michael Moran, Jennifer Bradley Morris, and Mara Nadolski. Curating the Qs is artist Daria Sandburg. Following their temporary gig as public art around town, the works will be auctioned off at the Q Ball. This is one benefit bash not to miss, with performances by kNOTDance and Aqui Tango, sounds by DJ Nate Da Phat Barber, food by E2, a live auction, and a special revival performance from Quantum’s Maria de Buenos Aires, featuring Raquel Winnica Young and Quantum’s artistic director and founder, Karla Boos. Also, FashionAFRICANA’s Demeatria Boccella will curate a live couture show featuring collaborative work by local fashion and theatre designers.
