Audiences will be the first in the US to see Quantum’s highly anticipated premiere of the Olivier Award-winning play, Collaborators.
Penned by John Hodge—best known for his screenplay for the hit film Trainspotting—Collaborators made its world premiere at London’s Royal National Theatre in 2011.
In the surreal world of Collaborators, the lives of the dissident Russian playwright Mikhail Bulgakov and the ruthless Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin are mysteriously intertwined.
Theater-goers will be transported to Russia in 1938, during Stalin’s campaign of political oppression known as the Great Purge.
Directed by Jed Allen Harris, the drama twists and turns between reality and illusion as the oppressor Stalin keeps Bulgakov—who is struggling to produce a new play about his hero Molière—heavily monitored and artistically censored. Find out what transpires when The Secret Police approach Bulgakov with a proposition for him to pen a “flattering depiction of Young Stalin the Hero.”
Featuring a talented cast of 11, the work is described as a “seriously funny play about an oppressed artist and the tyrant who needs him.”
Always thinking outside the black box, the ambitious company is staging the play in a former warehouse located behind Bakery Square.
Quantum is offering a special pre-show “Socialist Supper” where attendees can purchase a boxed dinner from chef David Bulman of Plated Trade and dine with fellow patrons in the “home of Stalin” before the performance. Check out more special events at Quantum.
