Friday, September 4: The Mind-Body Problem
4 & 8 p.m.
The New Hazlett Theater’s Community Supported Art Performance Series continues online with Gil Teixeira’s “The Mind-Body Problem.” Blending storytelling and music, the solo show explores high-tech instruments, physical space and sound. A native of Portugal, Teixeira is founder of the post-rock band, La La La Ressonance. To complement the event, the theater has posted Portuguese recipes so that audiences can make an Equilibrio cocktail and tapas at home. Register for free here.
Friday, September 4: PAWS Up Rodeo Dog Class at the South Park Ice Rink
6-7 p.m.
Looking for new skills to teach Fido? Try Rodeo Dog, an emerging sport that’s like barrel racing for horses, but with canines. During the outdoor class, dogs and their companions will bond while navigating obstacles during clover and straight line games. Buy tickets here.
Friday, September 4: Dan Bubien in Market Square
6-8 p.m.
The sound of music is flowing once again through Market Square. Support your favorite Downtown restaurant by ordering takeout and enjoying dinner at socially-distanced outdoor tables while being treated to live music by Dan Bubien.
Friday, September 4: Allegheny County Parks Unplugged
7 p.m.
Unplug from the daily grind with some sunshine pop from the Pittsburgh-based trio, Donora. Broadcast via the County’s Facebook page and YouTube channel, the free online concert series features acoustic performances by local musicians in regional parks.
Friday, September 4: Cymbeline with Pittsburgh Shakespeare in the Parks
7 p.m.
Travel to ancient Britain to experience legends of the Celtic British King Cunobeline. Pittsburgh Shakespeare in the Parks opens its newest season with tonight’s free YouTube Live production of “Cymbeline,” followed by a talkback with the company (have a cocktail ready). Directed by Jeffrey Chips, the production features costumes, sets and puppetry created by Lisa Liebering.
Friday, September 4 and Saturday, September 5: Tipsy History: The Spirited Age of Suffrage
8 p.m.
Forget Drunk History, Tipsy History is here. Spirited women meet local spirits during this live virtual event co-hosted by Heinz History Center and Wigle Whiskey. Learn to make the mysterious “suffragette cocktail,” join a rousing suffrage singalong and honor the passage of the 19th Amendment. Saturday, September 5: Great Race Virtual Challenge

Pittsburgh’s beloved Great Race is underway with its new One GREAT virtual challenge. Runners can choose from the modified traditional course, North Shore/Downtown course and Schenley Park/Oakland course, and will use Strava to track and submit their times. Participants challenging themselves to run both the 5K and 10K distances will earn three medals and two t-shirts. Register here.
Saturday, September 5: Free admission at Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Plan a day trip to the oldest site of human habitation in North America, because all month, Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village is free to kids aged 17 and under. The kiddos can use a prehistoric spear-thrower and an 18th-century tomahawk, step into 16th-century Monongahela Indian Village and explore the natural wonders of this shelter used by humans 19,000 years ago.
Saturday, September 5: Archery Discovery Course at the North Park
1-2:30 p.m.
Channel your inner Robin Hood — and pick up a new hobby during the pandemic — at this archery workshop hosted by L.L. Bean. You’ll learn how to correctly hold a recurve bow, release an arrow for optimal accuracy and precision, and in no time, how to safely hit targets. Buy tickets here.

Mis.Steps founder Laura Zurowski will lead this socially distanced hike through steep and scenic Spring Garden and Troy Hill. Saturday, September 5: Film Pittsburgh September Spotlight

Every month, Film Pittsburgh’s Spotlight Series is featuring a critically acclaimed, fan favorite or socially relevant film. September’s feature is the comedic hit, “Are We Good Parents?,” the second film by Nigerian-American director Bola Ogun, who’s a rising star on the cinematic scene. After the movie, watch an interview with Ogun hosted by Film Pittsburgh Executive Director Kathryn Spitz Cohan.

The world lost a hero like no other on July 17, when U.S. Rep. John Lewis passed away. Get into some good trouble with the civil rights icon by renting Dawn Porter’s new documentary chronicling Lewis’ remarkable life and legacy.
