Here’s the scoop on Dish Osteria and Bar: The popular South Side Italian restaurant is reopening this spring after its owners, Michele and Cindy Savoia, took a nearly two-year break from the business.

The couple announced their triumphant return Thursday on social media:

“Ciao a tutti,” the post read. “It’s been about two years since we closed our doors for a sabbatical and we are so grateful to have had the opportunity to take this time off. We are looking forward to getting back to doing what we love and welcoming you all at Dish once again. Please stay tuned for further announcements as we get closer to opening.”

Dish opened at 128 South 17th St. in September 2000.

Built in 1885, the three-story building has housed several watering holes over the years. The Savoias bought the property in December 1999 and served authentic Italian cuisine until April 2017. The charming neighborhood restaurant was known for its outstanding food and welcoming vibe. It made many best-of lists in Pittsburgh and customers mourned its closing. The reopening is good news for the local food scene.
